چکیده
In HTTP Adaptive Streaming (HAS), videos are encoded at multiple bitrates and spatial resolutions ( i.e. , representations ) to adapt the heterogeneity of network conditions, device attributes, end-user preferences. Encoding same video segment increases costs for content providers. State-of-the-art multi-encoding schemes improve encoding process by utilizing encoder analysis information from already representation(s) reduce time remaining representations. These typically use highest bitrate representation as reference accelerate Nowadays, most streaming services utilize cloud-based techniques, enabling a fully parallel overall time. The has than other Thus, it is unfavorable in setup bound its This paper provides comprehensive study various multi-rate both serial scenarios. Furthermore, introduces novel heuristics limit Rate Distortion Optimization (RDO) across Based on these heuristics, three proposed, which rely sharing different representations: (i) optimized compression efficiency (ii) best efficiency-encoding savings trade-off (iii) . Experimental results demonstrate that proposed 34.71%, 45.27%, 68.76% with 2.3%, 3.1%, 4.5% increase maintain VMAF, respectively compared stand-alone encodings. reduced 22.03%, 20.72%, 76.82% encodings respectively.

Encoding Bitrate Optimization Using Playback Statistics for HTTP-based Adaptive Video Streaming
HTTP video streaming is in wide use to deliver video over the Internet. With HTTP adaptive steaming, a video playback dynamically selects a video stream from a pre-encoded representation based on available bandwidth and viewport (screen) size. The viewer’s video quality is therefore influenced by the encoded bitrates. We minimize the average delivered bitrate subject to a quality lower bound on...
متن کاملNew adaptive interpolation schemes for efficient meshbased motion estimation
Motion estimation and compensation is an essential part of existing video coding systems. The mesh-based motion estimation (MME) produces smoother motion field, better subjective quality (free from blocking artifacts), and higher peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) in many cases, especially at low bitrate video communications, compared to the conventional block matching algorithm (BMA). Howev...
متن کاملAn Efficient Fast Hevc Encoding Technique
HEVC video coding standard uses a structure of flexible Coding Unit (CU) quad tree. This flexibility increases the coding efficiency and allows the standard to achieve better rate-distortion performance compared to its prior H.264/MPEG-4 AVC. The improvement of coding efficiency came at the cost of high encoding complexity. This paper presents a fast algorithm to reduce the encoding complexity ...
متن کاملAdaptive Bitrate Video Streaming over HTTP in Mobile Wireless Networks
The topic of this dissertation is bitrate adaptive media streaming to receivers in mobile wireless networks. This work was motivated by the recent explosion in popularity of media streaming to mobile devices. Wireless networks will always be bandwidth limited compared to fixed networks due to background noise, limited frequency spectrum, and varying degrees of network coverage and signal streng...
متن کاملOptimal Patching Schemes for Efficient Multimedia Streaming
Multimedia streaming applications consume a significant amount of server and network resources due to the high bandwidth and long duration of audio and video clips. Making streaming services economically viable requires techniques for minimizing the incremental cost of serving a new client, particularly for popular content. Patching [1] reduces server and network overhead by allowing a client t...
